How to Treat a Bee Sting At Home

How to Treat a Bee Sting At Home

Bee Stings

Bee Stings

Bee stings!  Ouch!  How much it will hurt depends on several factors, such as the kind of bee that you were stung by, where you were stung, and each person’s sensitivity to the venom that the particular bee contains within him.

Bee sting pain, you see, is different for everyone.  Being stung by a bee can go one of two ways, painful or painful and dangerous, as some people are highly allergic to bee venom.  It is noted that approximately 40 to 50 people are fatally injured by bee stings every year.

To treat a bee sting at home you have to first find the culprit’s stinger in your skin.  If you do not locate this the stinger will continue to slowly release its venom and this will make the situation much worse.  Sometimes the stinger can be scraped off or removed by the use of tweezers.  You will need to work around the bee sting location and pinch it to get the stinger to work its way above the skin.  You may be able to then grab it out with tweezers if you are lucky.

The area of the sting itself will be sore and painful.  You can use compresses of a cold temperature to soothe the area.  You should also mix up some water and baking soda and cover the area with this paste.  Instead of water, the baking soda may be combined with vinegar, which will tend to draw out the poison of the venom itself.  Another remedy is that of chewed tobacco to the bee sting area.  Many people simply throw a few sprinkles of meat tenderizer over the affected area, as this will combat any swelling or pain somewhat.  Honey is another good way to treat a bee sting at home.  This little remedy will prevent any further pain.

As mentioned above, many people are allergic to bee venom.  This allergy can cause its victims to go into anaphylactic shock.  A person experiencing this may encounter weakness, confusion, hives, labored breathing, wheezing, hypotension, a loss of consciousness, dizziness, and/or seizure activity.  Swelling is also noted with common areas being the head and the neck.  This can occur within a few minutes, sometimes even seconds.  Some people even require a trip to the emergency department in the hospital.  There the patient will likely be given a shot of epinephrine.  This allergic reaction can occur in anyone at any time.

The items mentioned above should always be kept handy even when traveling.  A bee sting can occur when you least expect it and it is always safer to err on the side of caution.  Protect yourself and your family by always being prepared in case of this potentially dangerous emergency situation.
