Lasik Eye Surgery Prices

I paid about $2,200 per eye for my lasik surgery just about three years ago and that figure looks to be inline with most pricing I have reviewed lately as well as quotes from acquaintances who also had lasik surgery performed more recently than I. My costs covered all of the pre surgery appointments and the post lasik appointments as well. I did not require any enhancements (additional surgery), but if I had needed additional surgery it would have cost me a few hundred dollars more.

Through my own experience and research, I think it is fair to say that you can expect to pay approximately $1700 to $3000 per eye. That seems like a big spread, but your total will depends on the type of lasik you opt for, the degree of vision correction needed and surrounding components like pre and post surgical care needed. My calculation is derived from my own findings and experiences so my expectations may differ from your actual quotes. In light of the poor US economy at this time coupled with the unwillingness of virtually all health insurance plans to cover your lasik eye surgery, price is usually an important consideration for anyone thinking about laser eye surgery.

$1700 to $3000 per eye might be viewed as high if you have seen adverts claiming to offer lasik surgery for less than $1000 per eye. My advice about these offers of super low priced lasik procedures is to be doubtful of these to good to be true prices. They may be failing to include charges for needed services like pre surgery testing and aftercare, which is a big part of the lasik recovery process, just to get you to come in where you may be forced to listen to the high pressure sales tactics. At the end of it all when the total cost of your procedure and services are disclosed their quotes are are in the same ballpark or greater than other providers. Such advertisers may also be leaving out the eligibility criteria to actually get the low cost being promoted. Requirements may be such that a a tiny number of potential customers can actually have their surgery for the promoted price. As always, do your research thoroughly and ask as many questions as you feel you need to in order to understand how much you will be paying and exactly what that price comes with. Even though lasik prices were a major concern for me as well, there was no way I would have gone with a lasik provider only based on cost.

Payment plans are one way a number of patients elect to pay for their procedure. Most lasik providers typically offer a financing option, but not all will. If you think you may use a payment plan, make sure you ask about and completely understand the terms before you agree to anything. All of the offices I checked out near me offered financing, though in the end I did not take advantage of financing.

If you are employed, getting in touch with your HR staff could also be of use when deciding how to pay for your procedure. Your employer may have an agreement with a local lasik provider to offer discounted prices for company workers. If you are a US employee, your company might also offer a flexible spending account program you can join too. Flex accounts permit you to allocate money for non-reimbursible medical costs on a pre tax basis. Most elective surgery including lasik plus a whole host of other common costs can be reimbursed via an FSA. Check with your employer.

Whether the economy is strong or weak, the lasik surgery cost is almost always going to be a factor when thinking about whether or not to have lasik surgery. Cost cannot be overlooked but it should not be the only factor guiding the decision. Be leery of low prices that look too good to be true. Investigate lasik financing with any potential provider. Talk to your employer too, since you could be eligible for a lower price or alternate arrangement.
